Learning has always been core to society. We are born to learn and adapt to our surroundings.

Digital technology has forced learning to evolve too. Accelerated by COVID-19, demand for eLearning solutions for organizations of all shapes and sizes has exploded. The market size is expected to nearly double in 5 years, from $200B USD to $375B USD by 2026. Corporate eLearning is estimated to be about $50B of the total.

With this future in mind, BannComm is excited to announce the expansion of our eLearning department, focussed on providing B2B learning solutions to medium and large scale organizations.

The department will be headed up by Dr. Jonathan Ross.

Dr. Ross

Dr. Ross received his PhD in Educational Technology from the University of Calgary in 2000, studying how adult learning characteristics such as learning style, personality, and subject matter knowledge impact eLearning program development.

He has published his research in revered academic journals, spoken as keynote speaker at educational conferences, and taught adult learning theory for over 12 years at Mount Royal University. He brings over 25 years of eLearning experience and numerous international awards for his work on user interface design and the online learning experience.

The future of eLearning

There are many challenges and transformations ahead, especially when it comes to eLearning. As Millennials and GenZ — digital natives — continue to expand their market presence, tools and requirements for eLearning systems are forced to evolve.

The approaches of asynchronous versus synchronous learning are competing to find their utility in this pandemic stricken world. Length, medium, format, assessment, application — every facet of learning can and will be challenged in the coming years as this industry evolves and re-evolves again.

We anticipate crossover opportunities and challenges arising from virtual reality mediated learning, as VR tech costs and accessibility continue to drop. Micro-credentialing services, such as those offered by Credly, will also likely play a significant role in how we assess eLearning. And of course, video conferencing technologies have experienced an enormous boost thanks to COVID-19 — these communication systems can also find a competitive space to carve out in the eLearning ecosystem.

With the dizzying amount of digital opportunity surrounding eLearning, BannComm aims to stay on the forefront of the latest innovation and solutions for this ever expanding industry. The extension of our division and the leadership of Dr. Ross will ensure we maintain this position through the anticipated rapid growth leading into the 2030s.
